Overview

The story takes place in present-day Suzhou, China, in a Jiangnan-style restaurant. There, a 20-year-old migrant worker named A-Xia unexpectedly meets a university student named Mao Guo, who is at the restaurant for a social practice assignment. Set within the rich cinematic space of a southern Chinese eatery, the film presents the lives of ordinary people swept up in the currents of modern society, seen through the lens of sociology student Mao Guo. A-Xia, unfamiliar with social etiquette and institutional rules, nevertheless radiates human warmth and resilience.
